About the Modpack
Vanilla Horizons is a vanilla-plus modpack that expands the vanilla Minecraft experience. This modpack includes performance improvements, immersive visuals, more visual effects, 3D textures, quality‑of‑life tweaks, more achievements, more redstone, exploration content and survival mechanics.
How to use the modpack in singleplayer and multiplayer:
The modpack is designed for singleplayer and multiplayer via Essential. If you are playing with Essential make sure the host and all clients are using the same modpack version. If you are on a dedicated server the server and the clients also need to have the same modpack version but the modpack is not tested on a dedicated server because I do not own one.
Which version of the modpack do I use? The Lite version or the normal version? README
Default modpack settings
- Normal version: required 24gb+ ram with minimal 18gb ram allocated to the modpack, recommended is to allocate 20gb+ of ram to the modpack.
- Lite version: recommended 8gb+ ram with minimal 3,5gb ram allocated to the modpack, recommended is to allocate 4,5gb+ of ram to the modpack.
Which version do I use and how to tweak the settings and ram usage
- I have a decent pc. > Normal version.
- I have a low-end gpu or integrated graphics. > Normal version with lower shader preset. Also go to the settings from the mod Distant Horizons and lower the lod render distance radius to 48/32 chunks and lower the quality preset to high or medium.
- I have a low-end cpu. > Normal version with lowered shader preset. Also go to the settings from the mod Distant Horizons and lower the LOD render distance radius to 48/32 chunks, lower cpu load to low or lowest impact, lower the quality preset to high or medium.
- I have a low-end pc. > Lite version.
- I have 16gb ram. > Normal version. Go to the settings from the mod Distant Horizons and lower the LOD render distance radius to 48/32 chunks.
- I have 8gb ram. > Lite version. Allocate 3,5 gb ram to the modpack.
- For the normal and Lite version follow these steps:
- Go to options > Stutterfix.
- Set worker threads count to the max.
- Set priority cutoff point to a quarter of the value of the worker threads count. If the value of priority cutoff point is higher than 4 set it to 4.
- Leave rest as is.

JEI Item & Recipe Guide You can find almost every recipe in the game using JEI. Open your inventory and use the menu on the right to browse items, check recipes, and discover content not listed here.
New survival Mechanics: Temperature & Thirst
- Craft a canteen to drink water.
- Make wool armor to stay warm or leaf armor to stay cool.
- Winter times can get very cold.
Paragliders
Paragliders make exploration much easier.
- When equipped, you can gain altitude by flying over hot air, such as a fire lit with flint and steel.
Bundles
Bundles do not appear in JEI, but you can craft them:
- 1 leather + 1 string above the leather
Crawl
Press X to crawl. Great for fitting into 1 block spaces.
Zoom
Press C to zoom in and see faraway.
Screenshot Manager
Screenshots taken with F4 can be viewed in‑game. In both the main menu and pause menu, you’ll find in the bottom of your screen:

Seasons
Seasons are now in Minecraft.
- Winter is very cold in cold biomes.
- Summers are very hot in warm biomes.
- Neutral biomes are in between.
- Some crops do not grow during winter. Hover over seeds or crops in your inventory to see their seasonal growth info.
Enchanted Book Descriptions
Unsure what an enchanted book does? Most books can be right‑clicked to read a description.
Wiki
- G: open the wiki for the block you’re looking at.
- H: open the wiki search menu for general queries.
Chunk Loaders
You can craft chunk loaders to keep areas active when yourn't nearby.
- Press V to view and manage them.
Waypoints and Minimap
- B: add a waypoint.
- N: create a quick waypoint (perfect when running from danger).
- M: enlarge the minimap.
Right‑Click Harvest
Right‑click crops to harvest and replant them instantly.
